The Boulder Innovation Center closely collaborates with the University of Colorado’s Technology Transfer Office. This collaboration takes a variety of forms, but the end goal is always the same: the commercialization of technology created by University of Colorado faculty and students.

Provide researchers and inventors an opportunity to share their work with interested entrepreneurs and members of the business community.

Commercialization Forums
Forums offered by Boulder Innovation Center Staff and Advisors are organized by research area to communicate and identify the commercial potential of a given technology. For additional information, please see our Programs Page.

Student Internships
Students assess the commercial potential of new technology, conduct market research, and produce business plans to gain valuable experience in technology commercialization. Students from the University of Colorado’s MBA program and the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic work closely with BIC Advisors in commercialization efforts and projects. University of Colorado’s Technology Transfer Office Annual Awards Banquet
This event highlights the year’s research and technology commercialization achievements by University of Colorado staff and local business community leaders. This event occurs on January 14th 2008.

Technology Transfer Esprit Alliance Breakfast
This breakfast showcases University of Colorado inventions and the work of University research staff. As part of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce’s yearly Esprit Entrepreneurship Celebration, the University of Colorado’s Technology Transfer office presents some of its most promising commercial technology from the University of Colorado system. This event is typically held in October.

Funding Mechanisms

TTO Proof of Concept Grants & Investments
With a track record of success, the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Colorado is an entirely self-funded office at the University of Colorado. The Technology Transfer Office has an internal grant program in place to help faculty to bridge the gap between research, development, and commercialization of products and knowledge. Grants, to convert University of Colorado innovations to viable companies, vary depending upon need, with upwards of $100,000 in funding available. Funds are available via the Proof of Concept Grant (POCg) and Proof of Concept Investment (POCi). Applications for the POCg are accepted at anytime. Applications for the POCi occur twice a year. Bioscience Discovery Evaluation Grant Program (1060 Program)
Up to $200,000 in matching funds from the State of Colorado to enable bioscience research.

Small Business Grants (STTR/SBIR)
Small Business Grants provided by the federal government for the commercialization of technology. The Technology Transfer Office provides seminars and advising for the grant application process.
